Many times we think we are listening to people, but in truth we can be waiting for them to stop talking so we can share our thoughts. As Christians, Christian Leaders we need to learn how to listen. Sometimes listening can reveal a lot of truth that is needed as we counsel, share our experience, spread the Gospel, or make a friend. I think listening is hard in our day in age. Our culture is so “busy” and technology based that we desire to be quick. Hence why we text, email, or send pictures. Fast and on the go. Think of the last time you talked with someone, what did they talk about? Did you really hear them?
I believe this mindset can be seen in our relationship with God. We tend to read the Bible fast, pray fast, or even greet people fast. The issue is there is no depth. It can border line empty relationships. Remember fellowshipping, discipleship, and sharing burdens is part of our relationship with God. Loving one another as we love ourselves (Matt 22:39). Remember in my past blogs I have mentioned that God has been chasing you even before you were born. He is seeking a relationship, and that cannot be accomplished in fast and empty connections. I have fallen victim of such actions myself. Rushing my time with God so I can do something else. I have told many youth in the past that God desires a relationship with you, and that means you need to make time to build it with Him. We all have someone we love: friend, wife/husband, girl/boyfriend, family, and pets. We spend time with them, love them in action and word. Do we do the same with God?
I want to challenge you. How important is it for you to build a relationship with God? He loves you so much that He died for you. Don’t you think that means He desires a deeper relationship than a quick read of His word or a fast prayer out of pity or guilt? Sometimes it takes effort on our side to discover a beautiful side of God in our lives. He can do more with you on Earth if you only allow Him to do a great work in you. Tell tome right now and ask God to help you discover what it means to LOVE God. Then take some time and read the verses from the link below.
