I know all of us have been through hard times. It may not be financial, but it can be emotional or even sinful. So what does this have to do with being content? First of all, if you are in sin you need to repent and focus your mind, heart, and soul back to God. At the same time, when we reach the point of rock bottom we are more acceptable to our flesh and sin. When things seem to just not go our way we can create an open door for the Darkness to influence us. At this moment a battle begins, you either follow in your flesh or you decide to follow God seeking His empowerment to move forward.
22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. -Psalm 55:22
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” -Hebrews 13:5
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and[a] we cannot take anything out of the world. -1 Timothy 6:6
12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. -1 Corinthians 10:12-13
When we are at our lowest is the moment when we can be tempted to do wrong. To be content is where we hold our mindset. If we focus on our own ability we will have to face life alone. If we become bitter and angry we not only hurt ourselves, but we will hurt those we love and care for. If we give up, we give up on God’s promises. If we worry, we call God a liar. If we believe that leaving our spouses during hard times is the answer then we are breaking the contract we made to them and before God. Hard times come, as Christians we do not have to loose hope. When you have to face the hardship, yes your energy could be sucked from your soul, but if you are looking to God He will give you the energy to endure it. If you believe that you do not need Him then you will burn out to the point where you rather live in the world through any means possible.
If we decide to seek God through all the issues then we can discover the peace to last through the hardship. It begins when you stop allowing the storms to control your every day. It is when you pray, study God’s word, and change your mindset to be focused on God. We will find joy once again, and even when the hardship continues you will know where to run to. It is not a one time decision that makes it get easy, it is an every day mindset to focus on Him. The world wants you to believe that you can do it on your own, or otherwise you are worthless to society if you stay stuck in your issue. God wants you to understand that you have a purpose on earth as long as you live. You can either accept His Son as your savior to find hope, or you can follow the path of sin and the world. As Christians, we need to realize that by facing these issues God is able to mold us into the person He desires us to be. He will use our hardships to help others, and He wants you to trust and put your faith in Him. If we never had issues why would we need God?
