If you watch TV, Movies, play games, and any social media you have most likely heard, “You just need to follow your heart.” It is said all over the media that we can solve our issues by listening to our heart. The world spends so much time believing that we can find the answers if we focus on LOVING each other. The issue is that the World believes that every person is good within, naturally. The heart is all about the spiritual and morality of our humanity. Is this true, can we truly be good? We want to justify our actions so badly that we begin to deceive ourselves about our actions. Lets us check what the Bible shares about our hearts.
9 The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it? -Jeremiah 17:9 (ESV)
4 He is wise in heart and mighty in strength
who has hardened himself against him, and succeeded? -Job 9:4 (ESV)
18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. -Ephesians 4:18 (ESV)
There is so many different verses on the word “Heart”. You should take some time to check out all the verses in Scripture. You will be amazed on how many verses have the word heart then look at the World’s usage. Automatically it connects to the word “love”. The two commandments that Jesus shares to His disciples:
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” -Matthew 22:36-40 (ESV)
The heart will only lead us to destruction. The battle is for our hearts and souls as we live each day. Our heart wants to do what we think is right. It is natural for us to follow our hearts. If we were naturally good then we would not need a Savior, and mankind would just need to discover their inner good. Well the World would find this as acceptable because it would allow you to have control of your moral truths. You get to decide on what is right or wrong without worry of being accountable to anyone but your own self. The heart only wants you to follow your desires.
Our works do not reflect our goodness or our evil actions. Even the most nicest person still chooses many of their good works to make themselves feel better. The difference between a believer and non-believer is receiving the Holy Spirit. The Spirit works in us to choose the righteous path. We do good works based on the Spirit’s leading to do things right to glorify God over self. Our heart can only discern truth when we spend time studying the Scriptures and building a relationship with God the Father. He has been chasing you since birth. He wants you to change your mindset from obeying the flesh to following the Spirit of God truth. Paul even talks about how he battles between the two every day. It will take you to make the change by following the Lord and accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior. Will you stop following the path of wickedness and answer the call of God?
